Backend Developer

About the Role

We are looking for a Junior Backend Developer to join the Backend Development team at BDC. This is an early-career role designed for developers with solid programming fundamentals who want to grow into building and maintaining production-grade APIs and services under the mentorship of senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain RESTful API endpoints under the guidance of senior developers.
• Write clean, readable, and well-documented code following team standards.
• Work with relational databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL): write queries, migrations, and simple schema changes.
• Fix bugs reported by the QA team and track them to closure.
• Write Unit Tests for the features you develop.
• Participate in code reviews as a reviewee and apply the feedback you receive.
• Integrate straightforward third-party services (Push Notifications, Email, SMS) using existing documentation.
• Attend Daily Standups and Sprint Planning, and report progress and blockers clearly.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of backend development experience (including internships and graduation projects).
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent practical background.
• Good command of at least one backend language: PHP (Laravel) or Python (Frappe / Django).
• Understanding of relational database fundamentals and how to write SQL queries.
• Understanding of how HTTP and REST APIs work.
• Working knowledge of Git (branching, pull requests, resolving conflicts).
• Object-Oriented Programming fundamentals.
• Willingness to learn and accept technical feedback.
• Ability to read English technical documentation.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Docker or CI/CD basics.
• Exposure to the Frappe / ERPNext framework.
• Personal projects or open-source contributions on GitHub.
• Familiarity with caching or queueing tools (Redis).
• Exposure to Agile / Scrum ways of working.
